Datalase Partners with MPC International For Launch of N.A. Office

Challenge: Datalase, a fast growing laser technology company located in the UK, planned to open their first facility in the US. In order to hit the ground running, Steve Kelly, CEO of Datalase, contacted Dan Charney and MPC International to locate and land a General Manager that would be well-suited for their new US operations.

Requirements: Datalase had specific criteria for US candidates:

  • Executive level experience in the packaging industry
  • Ability to be effective in a start-up environment
  • Must fit into existing company culture
  • Based in a major eastern US city for easy communications and travel between US & UK
  • Well connected to industry players
Solution: Dan Charney and his associates used their contacts and networking skills to compile a list of 60 US companies that were doing business in a similar industry as Datalase. From there, Dan and his team formulated a list of top sales executives and began contacting them to gauge interest in the new position as well as making a career change. Those that were interested and matched the criteria outlined by Datalase, were interviewed by Dan. Upon interview completion, the list was narrowed to four viable candidates who were presented to Datalase. Subsequently, Steve Kelly, CEO, and Trevor Wilson, VP of Business Development, flew to the US to meet all four candidates in person. The next interview phase was extensive and thorough but ultimately one applicant rose above the rest. Steve and Trevor invited him to join them in the UK for additional discussions and meetings. The invitation was warmly accepted and to everyone's delight, he was well-received. Dan negotiated an attractive offer and presented it to the candidate. It was accepted immediately. In addition, Dan assisted the candidate in making a smooth transition from his current employer to Datalase.

Results: Datalase's new hire is now the Vice President and General Manager of their North America operations. He has established a fully fledged and thriving US division. While his role has been mainly sales focused, he has successfully staffed their US sales office and distribution facility. According to Steve Kelly, "working with Dan Charney and MPC Intl has been a highly positive experience and I have no problem recommending them."

Intermec Hires Shel Myeroff to Land Top Talent Within 30 Days

Challenge: Intermec, a global leader in mobile computing, RFID, wireless networks, bar code printing, and media technology solutions, hired Shel Myeroff on a retained basis to find 3 outside Sales Reps within 30 days; between December 1 and December 31, 2006.

Requirements: Intermec provided Shel with specific criteria for filling these positions:

  • Search Assignment had to be part of Intermec's 2006 budget
  • The new hires had to be up and running by January 2, 2007
  • Sales Reps were needed at 3 different Intermec Media Technology locations: St. Louis, Dallas and Phoenix
  • Candidates had to show interest in growing with Intermec and not looking for a "stepping stone"
  • Desirable candidates needed at least 5 years industry experience and ability to fit into Intermec company culture
Solution: Shel knew that a 30 day search assignment in the midst of the 2006 Holiday Season required a winning strategy and heavy artillery. He immediately assembled a 4-person SWAT team consisting of a Senior Account Executive, Senior Recruiter and 2 experienced Researchers. The Researchers sourced companies as well as a proprietary network and resources to gather potential candidates. The Senior Recruiter began screening potential candidates to gauge interest, skill level, and availability. From there, candidates were ranked to determine the most qualified and desirable. In addition, behavioral interviews and background checks were put into motion. The Senior Account Executive conducted final interviews and presented 4 candidates to Intermec.

Results: Intermec was so pleased with the smooth process and caliber of candidates presented before deadline, that they immediately hired 3 of the 4. According to Jeff Horowitz, West Printer Media Sales Manager, "We went directly to Shel Myeroff for these searches. We didn't even consider another recruiter or firm. We know that Shel provides phenomenal customer service and excellent follow-up. And in this case, he was available to us day and night. He helped us build a capture strategy and therefore served not only as a recruiter but as a hiring consultant as well."

Intermec has a 12 year history of hiring Shel and his team. The average candidate placed at Intermec by Shel has stayed upwards of 5 years. In addition, they are all top producers! In fact, 90% of those placed are well over 100% of their quota.
